PROTECT WHAT MATTERS

More than a siren on the wall.

A professionally installed alarm system helps protect your property against unauthorized entry and can also provide early warning of other important conditions. Modern systems can monitor doors and windows, detect movement, send notifications to your phone and connect to professional monitoring services. At EZtech, we design the system around your property, how you use it and what you actually need to protect.

01

WHY AN ALARM SYSTEM?

Know what is happening at your property.

An alarm system creates layers of protection. Perimeter sensors protect entry points, interior detectors add another level of detection, and compatible safety devices can monitor conditions such as smoke, carbon monoxide or water leaks.

✓ Unauthorized entry detection✓ Door and window protection✓ Interior motion detection✓ Remote smartphone notifications✓ Compatible fire and CO protection✓ Water-leak detection

Good security is not about installing the most sensors. It is about installing the right devices in the right locations.

02

HOW IT WORKS

From detection to response.

1. Detect

A sensor detects an event, such as a protected door opening or movement in a secured area.

2. Process

The control panel receives the signal and determines how the system should respond.

3. Alert

The system can activate a siren, identify the alarm location and generate supported notifications.

4. Communicate

The event can be sent to a professional monitoring station or directly to you, depending on your setup.

MONITORING OPTIONS

Professional monitoring or self-monitoring?

Both options can provide useful security. The main difference is who receives the alarm and who is responsible for responding.

24/7 SERVICE

Professional Monitoring

A compatible alarm system communicates supported alarm signals to a monitoring station. When a signal is received, trained operators follow the response procedure associated with your account.

This can be valuable when you are sleeping, travelling, working or simply unable to check your phone.

  • 24/7 reception of supported alarm signals
  • Response procedures based on your monitoring agreement
  • Can support burglary and compatible life-safety signals
  • Useful when you cannot respond yourself
DIRECT CONTROL

Self-Monitoring

With a compatible self-monitored system, notifications are sent directly to you through the supported app or notification service.

You review the alert and decide what action to take.

  • Smartphone alarm notifications
  • Remote arm and disarm on supported systems
  • Check system and sensor status
  • Manage users and selected notifications
  • You are responsible for responding to alerts

Features, communication methods and monitoring response procedures depend on the installed equipment, service provider and selected plan.

COMMON ALARM DEVICES

What each device does.

A properly designed security system combines different devices to protect the perimeter, interior and important environmental conditions.

+

Alarm Control Panel

The brain of the security system. It receives information from sensors, processes alarms and controls communication with compatible monitoring and mobile services.

+

Keypad / Touchscreen

Used to arm and disarm the system, check system status and access programmed security functions.

+

Door & Window Contacts

Protect important entry points by detecting when a protected door or window is opened.

+

Motion Detectors

Provide an additional layer of interior protection by detecting movement in a protected area while the system is armed.

+

Glass-Break Detectors

Designed to recognize sound characteristics associated with breaking glass and help protect rooms with windows or glass doors.

+

Sirens

Provide a loud local warning to occupants and draw attention when an alarm condition occurs.

+

Smoke & Heat Detectors

Compatible devices can provide early warning of smoke or abnormal heat conditions and may communicate supported signals through an appropriately configured monitored system.

+

Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Detect dangerous carbon monoxide levels and provide an audible warning. Compatible systems may also communicate the alarm.

+

Water / Flood Sensors

Detect unwanted water near water heaters, sump pumps, laundry areas, mechanical rooms, basements and other vulnerable locations.

+

Panic / Emergency Buttons

Provide a quick way to generate a programmed emergency signal. The response depends on system and monitoring configuration.

+

Cellular Communicator

Allows compatible alarm systems to transmit supported signals over a cellular network without relying solely on the property’s regular internet connection.

SYSTEM TYPES

Wired, wireless or hybrid?

There is no single system that is best for every property. We choose the approach based on the building, existing infrastructure and your requirements.

Wired

Devices communicate through installed cabling. Wired systems can be an excellent choice for new construction, renovations, commercial properties and buildings with usable existing alarm wiring.

Wireless

Wireless sensors reduce the need to run new cables and are particularly useful in finished homes or buildings. Proper installation, programming and battery maintenance are still important.

Hybrid

Hybrid systems combine wired and wireless equipment. They are often ideal for upgrades because existing usable wiring can be retained while new wireless devices are added where needed.

ALREADY HAVE AN ALARM?

You may not need to replace everything.

EZtech can inspect an older or non-functioning security system before recommending replacement. Depending on compatibility and condition, existing wiring, contacts, motion detectors, sirens and other equipment may be reusable.

We also troubleshoot communication failures, damaged wiring, defective sensors, false alarms and system trouble conditions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Alarm system questions.

Do I need professional alarm monitoring?

Not every property requires professional monitoring. Professional monitoring is useful when you want a monitoring station to receive supported alarm signals 24/7 and follow the response procedure for your account. Self-monitoring may suit customers who prefer to receive alerts directly and manage the response themselves.

Can I self-monitor my alarm system?

Yes, many compatible modern alarm systems support smartphone notifications and remote control. Available features depend on the panel, communicator, app and service selected.

Can you upgrade my existing alarm system?

Yes. We can inspect existing equipment and wiring and determine what can reasonably be reused, upgraded or replaced.

Can existing alarm wiring be reused?

Often it can. If existing cables and compatible devices are in good condition, reusing them may reduce installation work and cost. We test the existing installation before making a recommendation.

What is the difference between wired and wireless alarm systems?

Wired devices communicate through installed cabling. Wireless devices can reduce the need for new wiring in finished properties. Hybrid systems combine both and are often a practical option for upgrades.

How much does an alarm system cost in Toronto and the GTA?

Cost depends on the size of the property, number and type of sensors, existing wiring, communication method and monitoring requirements. EZtech can assess the property and provide a quote based on the actual system required.
